ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Cassie Coravos. I’m an artist, designer, and facilitator living in Detroit, MI. I’m constantly growing and evolving (aren’t we all?) and so is my work.
Generally, my work is centered around designing environments for people to thoughtfully engage and interact in the space around them. Often this means helping organizations build and nurture communities through events & digital experiences. I currently work with Bamboo Detroit and Entrepreneur Futures Network, helping them grow and support entrepreneurs across the globe. I love working with artists, non-profits, co-ops, and mission-driven companies.
In the past few years I've worked with Venture for America, Detroit Soup, Build Institute, Kiva, Design Core Detroit, and the National Coalition for Community Capital. I'm also a board member with the Detroit Community Wealth Fund. I've used my love of design and social impact to start a design bootcamp in China, lead design workshops for the community, and start the Open IDEO Detroit Chapter. Before that, I studied Manufacturing and Design Engineering at Northwestern University and led Human-Centered Design programming through Design for America.
That’s some of the “where” and the “what”, but the most important part of my work is the “why”. I see design as a tool to connect those in my community to resources, provide equitable solutions, and foster collaboration and empathy. I care about using design to create social change and help strengthen communities. I also see design as a way to create, test, explore, learn, and grow— in my work, in my art, and in my life.
As an artist, I work with textiles and found materials to create pieces that are textural, playful, colorful, and often wearable. While specializing in sewing, embroidery, and shoemaking, I am always exploring new mediums and methods of creation. Take a look at some of the things I’ve made.
I'm always striving to meet new people and learn something new. If you'd like to chat, collaborate, or explore the city, let's talk.
